19: Mood First Planning: Why “Fuck Your Mood, Follow the Plan” Misses the Mark

Maybe you've seen the popular “fuck your mood, follow the plan” online.

Leila Hormozi has really popularized this expression. I love her advice and podcast — she's smart, driven, and clearly successful.

I agree with this expression to an extent. In life and business, there are sometimes things we don't want to do. In these cases, yes, forget your feelings and follow the plan.

This got me thinking, though, and I propose a fresher approach that's better suited to how women write. If they want to create in a more sustainable way, which differs from how men create.

While discipline is important, what if we could align our writing and work with our natural moods and cycles?

I'd like to introduce you to the idea of "mood-first planning."

Your mood can be affected by many things, specifically your menstrual cycle and the moon. While we're not blaming the moon for anything, that's not what we're about.

Instead, we can work with the mood (aka the moon) of the day.

By understanding and honoring nature's cycles, women can boost their productivity and effectiveness and even enjoy the writing process.

I encourage you to experiment with mood-based planning and see how it transforms your writing output.

✨ 4 Key Takeaways

  1. Your mood matters (sometimes): You can use your feelings as leverage for more productive writing sessions.

  2. The moon's phases and daily zodiac sign affect energy levels and creative flow.

  3. The best weeks to follow the plan are from the full moon to the new moon (or ovulation to menstruation if you have a menstrual cycle).

  4. Flow over force makes for easier writing that will resonate more strongly with your readers.

✅ Practices to try

  • Plan your writing tasks for the coming week according to the moon's phase.

  • Observe your daily mood: Pay attention to how the moon’s phase and sign impact your daily mood and writing.
