5 Ways To Find Your Writing Flow With This Scorpio New Moon — PLUS some writing prompts

Do you ever show up to write, and the words feel slow and clunky?

Maybe you recall when the words flowed out so fast and wonder where that flow went.

This sometimes leads to some spiraling thoughts:

What's wrong with me?

I did this before. Why can't I do it again?

Ugh! This is just too hard.

Every writing session will feel different.

  • You're different

  • The weather has changed

  • Your body is different

  • The moon is in a different phase and sign

  • And if you're a woman, your hormones have probably changed too

Every time we write, the words will have a different flavor.

This is a good thing — if we flow with it and not force it.

♏️ This week, there's a new moon happening in Scorpio (Friday, November 1, at 8:47 am EDT).

If you're reading this today as I write it, it's a few days ahead of the new moon.

🌘 So right now, the moon is waning.

When the moon is waning, less light is reflected in the sky—it's like changing your 100W bright white lightbulb to a 40W amber light.

With less light from the outside, the invitation is to look inside. And with less light, you may have less energy and be craving quiet and solitude. How you feel depends on your body, of course, too, but the moon affects us all, which is why I weave it into my intuitive writing practice.

🌑 So, what does a new moon mean for your writing and business?

Here's how to flow with it:

  1. Go slow. If you can move some meetings to later in the week or even next week, do it. This is not the week to plan a 12-hour writing session — unless it flows and feels really good.

  2. Write morning pages and reflect on what's coming up for you. What feels important? What's trying to get your attention?

  3. Reflect on some business and writing decisions that have been weighing on you. The answer is likely to become clear during this time. Decide to decide around the new moon. Knowing you'll decide on a specific date frees up the energy it takes from rolling around this decision in your mind for weeks on end.

  4. Journal, dream, and write freestyle on whatever comes up. Let yourself dream big while FEELING into the emotions coming up.

  5. Write from your body, not your mind. Imagine taking your brain out of your head and putting it in a box beside you. Write without judging, editing, or thinking.

Here are some writing prompts to go deep with this Scorpio new moon:

Remember, writing prompts are intended to get us started — not to procrastinate with.

  1. A strong desire is coming through…

  2. The work that’s calling me to put my head down and go deep…

  3. What writing project feels emotional to you, like it needs your attention?

  4. I want to go deeper into…

  5. This feels like a challenge…

  6. What do stillness and depth mean for you in your writing?

If you find these recommended actions and writing prompts helpful, this is the kind of advice you'll get in Finding Flow — a 30-34-day live writing experience to transform your relationship with writing.

Writing is always easier in flow.
